Fundraiser Dinner/Dance Event for Charity--help!?

I am planning a Dinner/Dance event for Children's Charity and want to make sure that I am doing this right...

I know I need:
Location
Tables/Chairs/Linens, etc.
Food
DJ/Entertainment
Silent Auction Items
Raffle Prizes
Double Roll Raffle Tickets
Flyers/Advertising
Invitations (Postcard style)

Do you have any ideas for fundraising things other than a 50/50 drawing, raffles, and silent auctions? Should I charge an admission fee covering the cost of the event itself? Help! Thank you.

Well you have the right Idea. Most of the time if you have your event at a banquet hall or resturant that has a hall area they will provide all Tables, chairs, linens and such.

Yes charge admission to cover your costs. But make it cheaper for a couple to come that 2 individuals (i.e. $15 per ticket or $25 per couple.) That way you are more inclined to get more people to come when they know its cheaper to bring a date or friend. Just make sure you get a cost estimate from the place you have the dinner at for "per person." If you can get enough single people to show up you can always have a bacholer/bacholette auction.

Work with the DJ and have it so that in order to request a song it costs a dollar or two. When looking for prizes go to local businesses and see if they will donate a gift. Many times if it is for charity they will. Try to avoid buying as many gifts as possible to help keep costs down.

It is the largest and most prestigious event of its kind, providing a prime opportunity for exhibitors to show off their wares and for consumers to browse the selection of goods on offer.

The Middle East has become a hotspot within the luxury yachting circuit, accounting for 33% of the entire fleet of superyachts owned globally. It is here that the future of yachting lies, and with the event taking place in the heart of the region, an unrivalled level of access to such a captive market is afforded to exhibitors. Figures from last year show that some 90% of visitors were of Middle East origin, whilst the regional breakdown of exhibitors was far more eclectic, with 47% travelling from Europe and the Americas.

The development of luxury marinas within the area has been extensive and in keeping with the continued growth of the Dubai as a powerful economical state and lucrative tourist destination.

Companies exhibiting at the show cover a vast range of services, from boat storage and transport to marina software and marine finance. With more than 700 exhibitors expected to attend, there will be no shortage of ideas and inspiration to capture the imagination of the thousands of visitors flocking to the event.

The show is held at the Dubai International Marine Club in Mina Seyahi, which offers a 300-berth marina, stunning views and luxurious accommodation only a short distance away. The location is a perfect setting for this high-class gathering of boating enthusiasts, providing an ideal example of the luxury lifestyle which accompanies the investment in such an industry.

Atlanta Boat Show - Top 5 Most Frequently Asked Questions at This Year's Boat Show

Hello everyone, Rick Ostler here from North American Waterway. Do you have any idea what does the month of January mean to the boating industry? January is the start of the Boat Show season across North America.

To start off the boat show season, the 2011 Atlanta Boat Show, happening January 13 - 16. The 49th annual show is located at the Georgia World Congress Center, 285 Andrew Young International Blvd, NW Atlanta, GA.

I recently caught up with Boat Show Representative Sarah Ryser, and I had an opportunity to ask her a few questions about this years show;

1. What would you say is a must "how-to seminar" to take in during this year's boat show?

We have a wide variety of free daily seminars and interactive courses for new and experienced boaters. The 'Basics of Sonar' by Ken Sturdivant is definitely a must. Many attendees have commented on how much they have learned from that seminar year after year.

In addition, the new sailing seminars by the Windsong Sailing Academy are expected to be a hit with sailing enthusiasts, which have been missing in recent years from the seminar lineup.

2. What has always been or will be the "most popular exhibit"?

It's hard to qualify the most popular exhibit at Atlanta Boat Show; the majority of local boat dealers have done an exceptional job decorating their booths to enhance the shopping experience for the attendee.

However, in recent years, one of the show features, the Affordability Pavilion, has been a big hit with visitors, as it showcases boats from dealers throughout the show floor that can be financed for $250/month or less - a great stop for entry-level buyers.

The Let's Go Fishing Center is also a popular destination at the show. You can check out What's new in fishing with daily seminars that are no cost and the live demonstrations are great way to update and improve your fishing skills.

Features of the exhibit include:

Daily fishing seminars - Take in local professional fishing experts demonstrate how to cast along with current fishing techniques. The training will be for saltwater and freshwater fishing. Check out how you can obtain a free Berkley fishing gift, and be sure to enter the Berkley Fishing Dream Tackle Box and gear contest, valued at $350.

The 5,000 Gallon Bass Tub - This is really cool, a rare opportunity to view the reaction how fish strike using a variety of lures. The aquarium will be stocked all during the show with native fish.

Trout Fishing for Kids - kids under 12 years of age get to enjoy the catch-and-release trout fishing pond. This goes on every day at the boat show.

3. In your opinion what's the "number 1 attraction" of this year's show"?

A big attraction for the 2011 show is Distortion Wake Boarding Extreme Rail Jam - A high energy wake-boarding demonstration inside the convention center. The top rider's right across the United States will perform radical wake boarding stunts and tricks using a state-of-the-art portable towing device. The demonstration will be done in an amazing landing pool filled with 30,000 gallons of water. The professional boarders are from Malibu, Ski Nautique, Mastercraft and Distortion Boarding.

4. What would be your most "frequently asked questions" about this year's show?

The questions we usually get the most are: Where can we get tickets? Tickets can be purchased online at the boat shows website and of course onsite during the show.

Another questions we often get is: Is it really possible to buy boats for $250.00 a month range or less right at the show? Yes absolutely!

5. What is "new" at this year's show?

What's 'new' at the show? Hundreds 2011 boat models and new marine accessories, gear & technology will be for sale this year.

Do you have any idea what does the month of January mean to the boating industry? January is the start of the Boat Show season across North America.

To start off the boat show season, the Houston International Boat, Sport and Travel Show, happening January 7 - 16. The show is located at the Reliant Center in Houston, Texas.

I recently caught up with Lisa Dimond Vasquez, PR representative for the show and I had an opportunity to ask her a few questions about this years show;

1. What would you say is a must "how-to seminar" to take in during this year's boat show?

Wow, that's a tough question because all our how-to seminars are so informative. If you are looking for information on basic engine maintenance, you should check out David Whelan's instruction on Mercury and Yanmar.

Or if you are looking for tips on fishing local waters, we have an abundance of instruction on all different types of fishing. If you are interested in getting your Captain's license, we have instruction on that too. For more information, you can take a look at the Seminar Schedule.

2. What has always been or will be the "most popular exhibit"?

With more than 300 exhibits, it's impossible to choose just the one most-popular. Our show is so diverse, as is our crowd, so there are many favorites.

You can find something for everyone here at the Houston International Boat, Sport and Travel Show.

3. In your opinion what's the "number 1 attraction" of this year's show?

Our #1 attraction this year will be the always-awesome Comic Bots comedy show - a completely unique interactive robot that sings, dances and entertains all ages. It's definitely worth seeing.

4. What would be your most "frequently asked questions" about this year's show?

One of our most frequently asked questions would be "what impact has the BP oil spill had on boating and fishing in Texas?" Our answer is a resounding "We're still boating and fishing." While there was much initial concern about the impact of the oil spill, particularly for those fishing guides who make their living on the water, fortunately, the spill never really reached the Texas coast. We really did not see any impact on boating or fishing along the Texas gulf coast.

5. What is "new" at this year's show?

This year we will have a new experience called the Bubble Runners. It's an opportunity for kids of all ages to climb inside a watertight "hamster ball" and skim across the water. Watching the kids roll and fall is a ton of fun for everyone.

Of course, there are always the newest models of boats and watercraft, the latest electronic gadgets and all kinds of exciting outdoor-related products.

Sounds like an awesome show this year Lisa, thanks for sharing some time with us.

Montreal Boat and Water Sports Show - Top 5 Most Frequently Asked Questions at This Year's Boat Show

The month of January is always the start of the Boat Show season across North America. To start off the boat show season, the 2011 Montreal Boat and Water Sports Show, happening January 27 - 31.

The show is located at the Place Bonaventure 800, De La Gauchetière West Metro Station: Bonaventure and Square-Victoria.

I recently caught up with Yves Paquette, General Manager of the Maritime Association of Quebec and I had an opportunity to ask a few questions about this year's show;

1. What would you say is a must "how-to seminar" to take in during this year's boat show?

Everyone can find a conference that meets his needs at the Boat and Water Sports Show. Though Louis Charbonneau's conference on Heavy Weather Sailing, as well as water skiing and wakeboard Canadian champion Guillaume Paré's one on Boat Driving Tips for Water Sports are definite must-see during this year's event, one must notice the number of great seminars that are not "how-to seminars".

Speakers with various backgrounds will address the visitors on topics enjoyed by crowds sharing different interests. Adventure lovers will enjoy the tale of Justin Bulota and his Kite surfing Expedition Following the St-Lawrence Water Trail or Mylène Paquette's account of Rowing across the Atlantic 2, 700 Nautical Miles solo from Quebec to France. Sailing-maniacs will seek to hear more from well known George Leblanc, while fishermen from all arrays will benefits from celebrity fisherman Patrick Campeau's tips on How to Get the Most Out of Fishing Time.

2. What has always been or will be the "most popular exhibit"?

New trends and products is what catch the attention of visitors. This year we expect the Triumph indestructible boat, which can float on as few as 2 foot of water, to raise a lot of interest. The LTS electric motor should also be a big favorite. With its capacity of reaching up to 50 km an hour, it is an important breakthrough in terms of electrical propulsion. Another good example would be the HRV Liberty pontoon from Southland, which literally consists in a 3-seasons Boat House featuring notably solar panels and a wind turbine.

3. In your opinion the "number 1 attraction" of this year's show.

As mentioned, the force of the Boat and Water Sports Show lies in its great amount of new products on display:

From the luxurious Prestige yacht from Jeanneau, to the incredibly all-inclusive HRV Liberty pontoon from Southland, visitors will be thrilled by all the exhibitors.

If there had to be a Top 5 of all the attractions, it would be:

Jeanneau's Prestige yacht
HRV Liberty pontoon
The new LTS electric motor
The wide selection of trawlers, among which Cape Island, Mainship, etc.
All the new pontoons on the market which are getting more comfortable by the years.

4. Answer to your most "frequently asked question" about this year's show.

The question we answer every year is whether we will have big boats on site. Big boat lovers will be happy to know that such brands as Doral, Mainship, Bayliner and Catalina will be part of the show this year again.

5. What is "new" at this year's show?

The indestructible boat by Triumph will draw lots of attention, especially fisherman. The speed of the LTS electric motor will be popular. Boat Show attendees will be blown away when they see the Southland HRV Liberty Pontoon Boat- HRV stands for Hybrid Recreational Vessel. It is one cool looking pontoon boat.

Sounds like another great show this year Yves, thanks for sharing some time with us.

Summary of "Dubai International Boat Show 2011"Mid-America Boat and Fishing Show - Top 5 Most Frequently Asked Questions at This Year's Boat Show

The month of January is always the start of the Boat Show season across North America.

To start off the boat show season, the 2011 Mid-America Boat Show and Fishing Show, happening January 14 - 23. The show is located at the I-X Center in Cleveland.

I recently caught up with Boat Show Representative Mike DiLorenzo with the Lake Erie Marine Trades Association and I had an opportunity to ask him a few questions about this years show;

1. What would you say is a must "how-to seminar" to take in during this year's boat show?

We revamped our Angler's Alley speaker lineup last year to include the most top pros, tournament winners, and experts that were available and visitors responded so well that we had to add extra rows of chairs after the first day.

At the 2011 show, we are going to hold four Angler's Alley "colleges" on the four weekend days; one each covering walleye, bass, fishing electronics, and steelhead. Mike Knippenberg and Ryan Buddie, this year's Masters Walleye Circuit team of the year, will speak at the show on Jan. 15 and 19 and 2010 MWC World Walleye Champion Jonnie Candle will be there on Jan. 21, 22, and 23. All-in-all, there will be multiple speakers each day at the show.

2. What has always been or will be the "most popular exhibit"?

People have always come and will always come for the great selection of boats; they are truly the stars of the show.

The diversity of watercraft at our show cannot be matched and I think visitors really benefit from having a one-stop shop for everything from large cruisers and fishing boats to sport boats, sailboats, pontoons, and personal watercraft.

3. In your opinion what's the "number 1 attraction" of this year's show"?

We were fortunate to snag the offshore race boat - Time Bandit Super V Lite boat for the second half of the show, Jan. 20-23. Visitors will be able to see the 90-mph craft up close and meet owner/driver Bob Mazikowski. Bob is no stranger to boat racing winning championships at National and World competitions in his 11 year career. Also be sure to see Travis Lofland who competes as a throttleman on the Wizard fishing boat.

People coming in the days prior to its arrival - you will want to check out the timeless wood boats that will be displayed by the North Coast Antique Boat Society, Lyman Boat Owners Association, and Cleveland Amateur Boatbuilding and Boating Society.

4. What would be your most "frequently asked questions" about this year's show?

People always ask about discount tickets and we will be offering plenty this year. $2-off tickets are on sale at all Cleveland-area Marc's stores right now and Tuesday, Jan. 18 we will hold a canned food drive. A visitor to the show who brings 4 canned foods to help fill a small boat will be rewarded with free admission to the show.

Put-in-Bay Days on Wednesday, Jan. 19, and Thursday, Jan. 20, will be celebrated with $5 after 5 promotions.

At 5 p.m. each night, the show's admission price will be reduced to $5. Thursday night's entertainment will be provided by South Bass Island Regulars.

5. What is "new" at this year's show?

A new "Cruising Lifestyle Stage" will be set up to host demonstrations on diesel mechanics, sail boat rigging, how to cook using a small galley, along with a display on regional destinations.

The popular Pre-owned Pavilion, which debuted at the 2010 show with quality used boats from multiple exhibitors, will be back, along with the regionally-themed Put-in-Bay Pavilion, Destination Vermilion, and Destination Sandusky displays.
