Get Lost and Stay There - Ultimatum Lyrics
One person in a relationship has had enough. They're sick and tired. Finished. And there's no negotiating. They want the other person out of their life -- and fast. They're done being diplomatic, and they express their feelings in lyrics that cut like a wood-chipper -- or, possibly worse, in humorous lyrics that make the former love of their life the butt of a joke. Here's a sampling of those get-out-and-stay-out songs:
"Get the F*ck Out" - Skid Row
Gee, why don't they get to the point and say what they really mean?! This song's lyrics are about a groupie who's overstayed her welcome. And, while this article IS about relationships, a one-night stand qualifies as a relationship, of sorts, in rock and roll. Judging from these lyrics, one night may have been one night too many: "No need to whimper/No need to shout/This party's over/So GET THE F*CK OUT!"
"If the Phone Doesn't Ring It's Me" - Jimmy Buffett
From the man who brought you the comical lyrics to "Let's Get Drunk and Screw" and "Cheeseburger in Paradise" come the hilarious and clever lyrics to "If the Phone Doesn't Ring It's Me." Jimmy's done with wasting away in Margaritaville, and he's looking for a new love: "If the phone doesn't ring/You'll know that it's me/I'll be out in the eye of the storm/If the phone doesn't ring/you'll know that I'll be/Where someone can make me feel warm/...If the phone doesn't ring it's me."
"My Give A Damn's Busted" - Jo Dee Messina
Country songs have the greatest titles, don't they? And this one has lyrics that get right to the point, and sting like a branding iron: "Stand out in the yard/Cry all night long/Well, go ahead and water my lawn/My give a damn's busted." According to Messina, she's equally blunt in real life, and she's drawn to lyrics that express her no-nonsense attitude. This song's lyrics appealed to her distaste for dwelling on problems -- she likes to find a solution, be done with it, and move on. And to the person at the receiving end of this song -- just deal with it.
"Don't Go Away Mad (Just Go Away)" - Motley Crue
This song starts off innocently enough, with a lilting, country-fried melody, and lyrics that kindly philosophize about a relationship gone wrong: "Seasons must change/Separate paths, separate ways/If we blame it on anything/Let's blame it on the rain." No big deal. It was just one of those things, and we've learned and grown from it, right? Wrong. Remember, this is Motley Crue, and those sympathetic lyrics were just a set-up for the Football Hall of Fame-worthy kick to the curb lyrics: "Remember what I say, girl/And it goes this way/Girl, don't go away mad/Girl, just go away."
"Take it on the Run" - REO Speedwagon
With lyrics about high infidelity, this REO hit was a song that many people could relate to. Particularly two members of the band. Originally titled "Don't Let Me Down," the lyrics were written by guitarist Gary Richrath about marriage problems he and singer Kevin Cronin were each going through at the time. Those lyrics were the ultimate power ballad ultimatum: "You take it on the run, baby/If that's the way you want it, baby/Then I don't want you around."
Parting is not always such sweet sorrow. But these songs and their lyrics show how to get the job done -- and get it done fast!
