Diego Chargers Seahawk

Is a players legacy more important than the way they finish their career?

It's Sunday, and once again I'm sad. No football. (sniffle sniffle) Anyway......

Wouldn't it have been better for Brett Favre to have reitred as a Green Bay Packer and preserved his legacy instead of playing 1 extra season with the Jets?

The reason I ask is because it's becoming more and more likely that the San Diego Chargers will cut Ladainian Tomlinson loose. Unless of course he's willing to take a major pay cut. So in the short term it might be better for his career to trade to another team to finish out the next 2-3 seasons he probably has left. But wouldn't it be better for his legacy to retire as a San Diego Charger? We remember Joe Montana as a 49er (not a Chief) Jerry Rice as a 49er (not a Raider or a Seahawk) and we will always remember Favre as a Packer (not a Jet). So why ruin your legacy by trading to another team for another season or two?

Thoughts?

I have endured the time when Joe Montana became a Chief. It was a very traumatic time for me since I was a huge fan of him. I didn't hat Montana because I knew it was not his fault. It was the 49ers who ultimately made the decision. Now that I am a grown adult, I see why it happened the way it did. The 49ers did what they thought was best to be competetive in the future and went with Steve Young.

Montana did not tarnish his standing as a 49er. Even when he was a Chief, I rooted for him to win. Even though he did not finish his career with the 49ers, in heart he will always be. Most people seem to forget that the NFL is not only a sport, but it is a business. These business decisions will happen whether we like it or not.

So is the legacy more important than the way they finish their career? The way they played throughout their career defines their legacy. Playing hard no matter where you are at is what is important. That is why players like Joe Montana and Jerry Rice are always mentioned about their greatness. Despite being a player of other teams at the end of their careers, they will always be 49ers at heart to any Niner fan.

If LT should be a player on another team, I would expect no less from a Charger fan. When LT retires and make it to the HOF, he will be embraced as a Charger.

Thumbs up to those who agree.

Seahawks Outllook in Game Three

It's week three for the NFL, and the Seattle Seahawks are going in 1-1. Under the new leadership of head coach Pete Carroll, the Seahawks are showing signs of change, and are still looking for their rhythm as a team.

Seattle opened strong against San Francisco with a 31-6 win over the 49ers at home. In game two on the road, the Seahawks didn't fair so well, losing to Denver 31-14.

The HeraldNet has Carroll quoted as saying of last week's game, "It's a long, long haul and we have yet to figure out as a team how to play well on the road. We'll figure that out as we go along."

Seattle will look to Hawks' quarterback, Matt Hasselbeck, to find his groove in game three against the San Diego Chargers. Seattle can't afford poor execution, like the three blunders against Denver.

The Chargers come into game three with the number three offense, and ranked sixth for rushing in the league. This should complicate things for a growing defense who is also suffering an injury.

The injury comes from Leroy Hill, who had just returned to play from suspension. Hill is starting linebacker for the Seahawks, and acquired an injury in the Achilles tendon while playing in last week's game against the Broncos. The injury will keep Hill off the field presumably for several games.
